No To Public Safety Levy

In today's Tribune, City Manager Greg Doyon says he does not suggest a public safety levy at this time. He does not think there would be enough time to "launch a campaign for a special levy this year. Plenty of work would need to be done to explain a public safety levy to residents."

The mayor doesn't think its a good idea during this "economic downturn".

I agree that it is not a good idea, but I think the reasons it would have a difficult time passing have more to do with the fiscal mismanagement of ECP and the boondoggle of SME and HGS.

How could the city realistically explain they need to raise taxes for emergency services when they, seemly without concern, have given SME hundreds of thousands of dollars and continue to run ECP in the red?

We are starting to see the fallout from the actions of a few.

people, people. Please get away form this conspiracy crap! Everything that the City does is not tied to the SME fiasco@ Plain and simple, Mr Doyon is coming into a govt where "fix it in the mix" acocunting over the years has resulted in a need for tightening the collective "belt" and start straightening out the mess that was left behind. Nothing more, nothing less.

I own several pets myself, but I don't think the public 'in the mood' for an animal foundation levy, let alone police, fire and other pressing needs. Both HSCC and Animal Foundation mean well and their concern for animals should be mutually helpful..

The old gurd city commission has cut its own throat by blowing millions of our dollars without even asking. And yes ANON it IS the HGS fiasco that is to blame. These ARE REAL taxpaer dollars down the toilet!

Anon. @ 3:21pm

You obviously condone irresponsible government.

It is NOT a theory that the city has spent a few MILLION dollars to help SME finance a project that not only did not get approval from us citizens, but wouldn't benefit us either.

I'm sure Mr. Doyon would be more than happy to tell you what an additional million or two could do to help with the current budget deficit.
