Medical Marijuana Moratorium Passes

I can't personally report on the votes taken at last night's City Commission meeting, because I left at 10:00pm. (According to Travis, the meeting lasted until nearly 11:30). We were still listening to the pros and cons of medical marijuana, agenda item #3. Contrary to what Mayor Winters said from the outset, one could count on one hand the number of comments made about the zoning of such.

The moratorium passed 4-1, with Commissioner Jolley dissenting.

I concur with the majority, but also respect the minority opinion and that's the way Democracy should work, with our leaders following the 'courage of their convictions' and dissent is an invaluable American tradition, and disagreement is NOT disrespect in the words of retired General Colin Powell.

The majority?? May the Lt.Col. wasn't in Montana in 2004 when medical marijuana was passed by the PEOPLE, including Cascade County, by 62% of the vote.

To find out the percentage in Cascade Co. One could go to the Election Office and ask to see the total.

68% in Whitefish where they are dealing with Zoning too. Fewer scare tactics though.

"An initiative, such as this, starts with citizens acting on their conscience to express their citizenship when they see a failure somewhere in the 3 branches." Exactly what happened with I-148. The people expressed their citizenship by enacting I-148 and now we have the City ursurping that action.
