Years ago I worked for the Brinderson corp. when they built the coal fired heating plant out at Malmstrom. The plant has baghouses that are used to clean the air. The bags eventually get plugged up with fine ash and won't work properly. There are several methods used to clean these bags as they are expensive and time consuming to replace.
One time I was given a stick and a paper mask and beat the bags clear. I think this is called the "dumb ass method". I don't know if it is done anymore since the plant was handed over to the base and they might not have any "dumb asses" for the job.

I remember reading a news story years ago of a complete failure of a bag house. The fallout completely devastated an area of farmland in the midwest but it was determined that the power generated was more valuable than the crops.
The power plant was nowhere near a city.
It's OK, just let the crap fall on Rural America...
Back flush the bag house in the dark of the night. The county hicks are all in bed at sundown.
