Same Old BS

I didn't attend last night's ECP board meeting, and if the reporting is accurate in today's Tribune, I didn't miss much.

Now Tim Gregori claims it isn't such a bad idea after all that:

* RUS denied funding; "Now only one financing source will be needed".

* Yellowstone Valley CO-OP pulled out; "SME is talking to two entities that would take all or more of Yellowstone's share of power".

Maybe I'm missing a couple of things.

How can looking for private investors (more than one) reduce his financing source to only one?

How are two entities necessarily better than one? I understand their individual financial commitments would be less, but there would also be one more company he would have to appease.

He also claims the city could possibly remain a member at 8 or 9% ownership without spending anymore money, although he did say the "city's total additional costs might only amount to $600,000 in all".

Let's see. We originally paid for 25% ownership, which was then reduced to 17% and is now sitting at 8 or 9%. We wouldn't have to pay anymore money to retain that 8 or 9%, but might have to pay $600,000.

He'd make one helluva politician.

Hey, I don't like the politician quip. (:

Mr. Tim did say some other funny things. We all got a little chuckle from his comment, "We have no secrets." There was a large crowd and we enjoyed his deadpan delivery. No he should be a comic.

He reminds me of the old fable, The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf - he is The Little Boy Who Cried Financing.

Stick a fork in it. The plant is done.

At last nights ECP board meeting Tim Gregory presented some interesting info. Unfortunately the Energy Information Administration (www.eia.doe.gov) websight is off line so I have not been able to verify the information.

All reserve electric power sources in the western United states will be exhausted by 2009.

The cost of power from a natural gas power plant is $130 MWh.

so says tim.

He also used the example of using fly ash in cement as proof of how harmless the ash is. I reminded the audience that on every bag of cement there is a large warning label to protect yourself from inhaling the particles to avoid respiratory distress.

And yes, the comic relief of "we have no secrets" was quite entertaining.

Colleen also made a somewhat disturbing statement that although she has no proof, she is sure that SME's insurance covers "cleanup down the road".

Mr. Gregori could sell ice to eskimos...and he's continuing
to 'sell' HGS because too many have not done their fiscal and/or
environmental homework in the city staff, boards and commission, with
the notable exception a a noble minority such as Commissioner Jolley and others who are starting to come out from Lawton's shadow...

Excuse me but I don't think Eskimos are that stupid. Great Falls City Hall is another story.

p.s. not you Mary:)
