Tonight's City Commission Meeting

Here are the highlights from tonight's meeting:

1. The blended rate scenario was pulled due to "commission action". At the five minute public comment time, Tim Gregori said he is looking forward to "ECP being on par with the other members" or words to that affect. If you attended the work session where this was discussed, please feel free to share.

2. Mr. Gessaman asked, for the record, who on the commission had looked into the "secret box". One person (Jolley) nodded.

3. Larry Rezentes, CPA, took the city to task for trying to hide the deficits of ECP through a clean audit. He said it is nothing more than, "we're going down the tubes, but the accounting is done accurately".

4. He also reiterated as did Ron Gessaman, that even though the city got an unqualified or clean audit, it doesn't mean the figures are accurate. The audit only indicates that the financials were presented fairly and according to appropriate accounting standards. Thank you Messrs. Rezentes and Gessaman. I very much enjoyed not hearing Commissioner Beecher bloviate about how accurate the city's finances are because of a clean audit.

5. Near the end of the meeting, Mayor Stebbins presented retiring planning director Ben Rangel a plaque for his 35 years of service.

6. At the close of the meeting, Mayor Stebbins wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah and told everyone to be "kind to each other"; unfortunately, she said this several minutes after she had John Hubbard removed for calling the commissioners "empty-headed".

I must say this was the first meeting in a long while where the commissioners didn't have much to say. Commissioner Jolley asked a few questions, but the others made no comments.

You don't suppose this lawsuit had anything to do with that?

NO MORE UNDERCOVER COPS...have
a uniformed officer just like the courts do, that's the proper way to do this, not use 'secret' police. I think EVERYONE in the future should use the 'word' in their comments, let 'her honor' throw us all out, huh?

Hubbard should be removed from every meeting. The man is mentally unsound.

In our democracy even Mr. Hubbard has the right to be heard. The cops acted VERY unprofessionally and created a dangerous situation for the public in their man-handling stupid antics. Get rid of the Gestapo and let our freedoms ring!

The police acted to remove Mr. Hubbard because he refuses to speak to the topic at hand and has done so repeatedly. Does anyone out there realize that he is a convicted felon (homicide) and could still pose a danger to the community?

John nailed it better than anyone. Empty-headed describes those goobers perfectly.

Empty headed describes you anonymous goobers as well. Who are you? And why won't you put your name on your opinions? This site is not worth anyone's time.

You have to love it when people with made-up screen names chide others for anonymity!

Anon 3:34,

MR. Hubbard was speaking during the agenda period when the public has the right to address the commission. Further, he was addressing an earlier agenda item concerning the new west bank development. Perhaps you need to attend some of these meetings to see what really goes on. His rights were violated!

Anna Montana is an upper lower class anonymous goober snob. She could move up to lower middle class if she used her middle initial.

Empty-headed friends put her up to it, so don't be so hard on the poor old girl.

Bubba H. Montana

No one has a right to disrupt a meeting. Hubbard has attempted to do so many times. The mayor has a right to conduct an orderly meeting, and she was well within HER rights to have Hubbard removed.

Hubbard has NEVER attempted to disrupt a meeting. He has used his civil rights. Civil rights have nothing to do with civility. The commissioners and mayor are confusing the two. Look them up in a dictionary.
Hubbard has attempted to piss off the commissioners. They have pissed away the assets of the city. They should be subjected to public comment that points out their cranial capacity deficiencies.

So, now the opponents of public comment have to attack a 'one-armed man' who is being labeled a murderer? Please tell us the rest of the story, and while we're at it, let's demand some more justice
and get the city records OPEN instead of the city being the coal plant's lapdog...that's criminal!
