PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE:  April 26, 2013
CONTACT: Jennifer Reichelt, Deputy City Manager – 455-8417

TENTATIVE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT REACHED WITH SOUTHERN MONTANA G&T

Great Falls, Montana – The City of Great Falls, Electric City Power and Southern Montana G&T, through their attorneys, have reached a tentative Settlement Agreement and Release, which will totally, completely and permanently sever the City’s relationship with Southern Montana G&T.
The proposed settlement agreement includes an owed water credit in the amount of $1,186,061.83 plus a mediated settlement amount of $2,063,938.17 totaling $3.25 million. The settlement is due only after it is approved by the Federal Bankruptcy Court. The settlement will be paid in two payments; one due three business days after the bankruptcy court accepts the settlement and the other on or before December 31, 2013. If the Settlement Agreement and Release is approved by the Commission, the source of the payments and funds will be approved through budget adjustments at a future City Commission meeting and discussed through the 2013/2014 budget process.

On Wednesday, May 1, two special meetings will be held in the Commission Chambers of the Civic Center (2 Park Drive S) to consider the Settlement Agreement and Release.  The Board of Directors of Electric City Power (ECP) will meet at 5:30 p.m. and there will be a Special City Commission Meeting at 7 p.m. Both Meetings will air on City 7 and be streamed live online. The Settlement Agreement and Release are available online at www.greatfallsmt.net.

Media inquiries regarding the Settlement Agreement and Release should be directed to Doug James, with Moulton Bellingham, at 406-238-1565 or Doug.James@MoultonBellingham.com. Written Public Comments regarding the Settlement Agreement and Release should be sent to Lisa Kunz, City Clerk at lkunz@greatfallsmt.net, hand delivered to the Civic Center-Office 204 or mailed to:

2013 MApril Clean-up

April 4, 2013
For immediate release
Contact person: Carrie Koppy
NeighborWorks Great Falls
(406) 761-5861
Carrie’s cell: 750-3606

MApril cleanup scheduled for April 27, May 4

The communitywide cleanup effort called MApril is scheduled for April 27 and May 4 from 8 a.m. to noon this year.
One of the primary sponsors, NeighborWorks, is seeking cleanup teams to work on local parks, roads, trails, and other public areas in Great Falls and Black Eagle. The civilian volunteers will join crews from Malmstrom Air Force Base in bagging and disposing of the winter accumulation of trash.
To volunteer to field a cleanup team, call NeighborWorks Great Falls at 761-5861 and ask for Carrie Koppy, or stop by the office at 509 1st Ave. S. to learn more about the communitywide cleanup program. Volunteers receive heavy-duty garbage bags, bag disposal and a certificate of appreciation acknowledging their work.
Every year, hundreds of volunteers have signed up to clean up a roadway, park or play area of their choosing. Malmstrom has committed several two-person teams to travel through city streets located in the NeighborWorks Great Falls target neighborhoods to pick up trash and litter in big military trucks. Other Malmstrom volunteers will be walking city streets and cleaning up garbage. Some neighborhood councils may also be sponsoring groups of volunteers to focus on their neighborhoods, and schoolchildren will be cleaning up around their schools.
Roger Bridgeford, general manager of Montana Waste Systems and the High Plains Landfill, is donating dumping fees again this year; the fees can run into the thousands of dollars, a huge donation to the local cleanup effort.
In addition to NeighborWorks, Montana Waste Systems and MAFB, other sponsors are the City of Great Falls, the Chamber of Commerce and the Montana Department of Transportation.
NWGF encourages team members that want to help to clean up areas important to them, but if teams haven’t selected a particular area to clean up, NWGF will assign them an area.
Batteries, paint, car bodies, large trees or branches more than four feet long cannot be picked up for disposal. Drivers can pick up old appliances, but people must call NeighborWorks and make arrangements ahead of time.
Maps and garbage bags can be picked up ahead of time by calling 761-5861.

Best Wishes, Gregg

Back in 2007, Gregg was kind enough to invite me to contribute to his blog. Shortly thereafter, I started Cataract City, and although my own blogging inclinations changed after my husband died in August 2010, I continued to enjoy his posts, particularly those that referenced local issues. I'll continue to keep his "old" blog in my archives.

Many thanks Gregg for all your efforts to bring transparency to city government, especially to ECP!
